Update:

Real Madrid sits last in a league table compiled by Transfermarkt that ranks teams based solely on goals scored by domestic players. In Madrid’s case, only two goals meet the criteria—ironically both scored by players who have featured as right-backs: Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vázquez.

Both goals came at the end of September at the Santiago Bernabéu. Carvajal scored his only goal of the season against Espanyol, while Vázquez opened the scoring against Alavés. It’s been a long time since either found the net.

Carvajal’s goal came after a ball recovery by Bellingham, whose cross slipped under the body of Joan García and found the Spaniard for a tap-in. Vázquez’s goal, on the other hand, followed a cutback from Vinicius Jr., who drove in from the left wing before laying it off for the Galician to score Madrid’s opener.

In contrast, Carlo Ancelotti’s side has conceded 16 goals to Spanish players. Despite having scored 69 goals in La Liga so far this season, only two—just 2.89%—have come from Spaniards.

It’s worth noting that Transfermarkt does not classify Brahim Díaz as a Spanish player. Although he was born in Málaga, he represents the Moroccan national team. If he were counted as a domestic player, the forward would contribute four more goals to Real Madrid’s tally. Own goals are also excluded from the count, as is Marco Asensio’s disallowed goal against Alavés.

Beyond that, there’s little to report—virtually all of Madrid’s scoring has come from players like Mbappé (24 goals), Vinicius Jr. (11), Bellingham (8), and both Valverde and Rodrygo (6 each).

In stark contrast, the standout team in this ranking is Athletic Club: 44 of their 50 La Liga goals have come from domestic. The six goals scored by Iñaki Williams, who plays internationally for Ghana, are not included. The Basques are granted “unbeaten” status in this list—according to the ranking, they would have 19 wins and 15 draws from 34 matches. They’re followed by Barcelona (42 out of 91 goals scored by Spanish players) and Villarreal (37 out of 60).

Another notable point: Atlético de Madrid sits a surprising 17th, with just five goals from Spanish players out of their 56 total. Meanwhile, Alavés stands out for the opposite reason—of their 35 goals, 31 have come from Spaniards.
