Date earmarked for LAFC-Club América Club World Cup playoff match
Both teams will play a one off game with the winner set to replace Club Leon at the forthcoming FIFA Club World Cup.


31 of the 32 participating teams at the inaugural expanded FIFA Club World Cup are known as this week the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected the appeals of CF Pachuca and Club León over multi property ownership and a further appear from Costa Rican side Asociación Liga Deportiva Alajuelense who felt they had a right to play at the Club World Cup.
Following the CAS ruling, FIFA will now proceed with their proposal of pitting LAFC (runners-up against León in the 2023 Concacaf Champions Cup) and Club América (top-ranked team in the FIFA Club World Cup confederation ranking at the conclusion of the 2024 edition of the Concacaf Champions Cup.

The winner of this one off playoff game will progress to the CWC and take León’s place in Group D where they will face Chelsea, Flamenco and Esperance of Tunis.
This one-off LAFC and Club América clash is provisionally set to take place May 31 at LAFC’s BMO Stadium.

Should América win, they would join fellow Liga MX outfits CF Pachuca and CF Monterrey in the competition.
Inter Miami and Seattle Sounders are the MLS representation at the tournament.
The FIFA Club World Cup with 32 teams runs from June 14 to July 13, with the final hosted at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, the same venue for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.
