Update:

The 151st Kentucky Derby is nearly upon us. For sports fans across the country it is a day steeped with history and brimming with excitement, an iconic horse race that attracts the eyes of the world for a few hours.

This year’s field includes 20 names all vying to make their mark on the event’s illustrious history. The race is set to get underway on Saturday at 6:57pm ET with the action broadcast live on NBC and streamed on Peacock.

It’s a major sporting spectacle and is also a magnet for sports bets, with bookmakers often considering it one of the biggest weekend’s of the year. This year the bookmakers have Journalism as the outright favorite, with odds of 3-1 as of Thursday morning.

Behind him, Sovereignty (9-2), Sandman (5-1) and Burnham Square (8-1) complete the favorites at the 2025 Kentucky Derby. Sports Illustrated’s Iain MacMillan has written extensively about this year’s race and he’s looking elsewhere for value, tipping a first-ever Japanese winner at the historic event. He has Luxor Cafe (currently around 10-1) as his tip for the race.
