Kentucky Derby 2025 odds and predictions: Who is the favorite to win?
The 151st edition of the iconic annual horse race will take place this weekend, with one clear favorite to take the crown.

The 151st Kentucky Derby is nearly upon us. For sports fans across the country it is a day steeped with history and brimming with excitement, an iconic horse race that attracts the eyes of the world for a few hours.
This year’s field includes 20 names all vying to make their mark on the event’s illustrious history. The race is set to get underway on Saturday at 6:57pm ET with the action broadcast live on NBC and streamed on Peacock.
It’s a major sporting spectacle and is also a magnet for sports bets, with bookmakers often considering it one of the biggest weekend’s of the year. This year the bookmakers have Journalism as the outright favorite, with odds of 3-1 as of Thursday morning.
Behind him, Sovereignty (9-2), Sandman (5-1) and Burnham Square (8-1) complete the favorites at the 2025 Kentucky Derby. Sports Illustrated’s Iain MacMillan has written extensively about this year’s race and he’s looking elsewhere for value, tipping a first-ever Japanese winner at the historic event. He has Luxor Cafe (currently around 10-1) as his tip for the race.

The outsider Baeza was previously an alternate but he’s been drafted into the field after Rodriguez was ruled out by trainer Bob Baffert on Thursday. Rodriguez had been given odds of around 6-1, putting him among the favorites, but he missed the last three races due to a suspension and isn’t right to compete this time around.
