Barboza doesn’t hide his opinion on Teófimo López: “He’s a clown to me”

The boxing world will be watching closely on Friday to see what unfolds in Times Square, New York, thanks to a card headlined by Teófimo López (21-1, 13 KOs) and Arnold Barboza (32-0, 11 KOs), which will also feature Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, Rolly Romero, and José Carlos Ramírez.

A few weeks ago, The Ring magazine brought together the top fighters from the card in Times Square, where Barboza claimed that López is a clown and said he would enjoy hitting him in the ring when they face off for the WBO super lightweight title.

“I just think he acts like a female, man. You know, he wants all the attention all the time” said Barboza. “And he’s a clown to me, man. He’s a clown to me, man. He’s gonna get smacked around, so it’s funny to me.”

Barboza became the WBO interim super lightweight champion after defeating Jack Catterall by split decision. The Long Beach, California native claimed the belt after receiving two 115-113 scorecards in his favor, with one against him by the same score.

The WBO has ranked fighters in the 140-pound division, and following Teófimo López are several top contenders who could soon challenge for the title.

Puerto Rican Alfredo Santiago, the North American Boxing Organization champion, is the top-ranked contender. Following him are Mexican Isaac Cruz, Puerto Rican Subriel Matías, British fighter Jack Catterall, and Australian Liam Paro.
