Patrick Mahomes drops some hints about Travis Kelce’s future with the Chiefs
With one year to run on his contract, Travis Kelce has been seriously thinking about where he wants to be when the new season kicks off in September.

Travis Kelce‘s professional future has been up in the air for some time. With the Chiefs rebuilding after losing Super Bowl LIX to the Eagles back in February, and the 35-year-old tight end entering the final year of his contract, both sides have had plenty to think about during the offseason.
Kelce took part in last week’s voluntary OTA workout as Andy Reid’s men gear up for this summer’s minicamp, which gets underway on June 17. And despite talk suggesting that he might even be considering retiring, Travis looked in great shape on his return to the training field.

Chiefs back in business
Patrick Mahomes was impressed with what he saw in his teammate, and from what he told reporters after Thursday’s session, Kelce seems to be more focused on the new season which kicks off in September than calling it quits.
“If it’s the last ride, you’d never know,” Mahomes said. “The way he’s talking about football. The way he’s talking about working and trying to be even better this year than he was last year. He doesn’t seem like a guy like it’s his last ride, like he’s tired of the job.
He continued: “It’s remarkable, honestly. I mean, you see him out there every day at practice. He’s working. He’s in there getting the reps. He actually gets mad when they take him out. I know his body feels good. I think he feels better than even last year before going into last season. I think he’s motivated to go out there and have an even better year than he had this last".

- 15 August Chiefs @ Seahawks
- 22 August Chiefs vs Bears
Kelce has nothing to prove
Not that Kelce has anything left to prove - his honors’ list speaks for itself: three Super Bowl wins, four All-Pro selections and 10 Pro Bowl appearances. His career stats are equally as impressive: 1,004 receptions, 12,151 receiving yards and 77 touchdown catches.
So from what Mahomes has said - and indeed Kelce himself (he eplained on the New Heights podcast: “I f***ing love playing the game of football. I still feel like I can play it at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year”), it looks like the legendary tight end will be suiting up when the Chiefs kickstart the new campaign in São Paulo against the Chargers on September 5.
