Deion Sanders’ words of wisdom to Shedeur after NFL Draft snub
By far the biggest talking point of night one of the 2025 NFL Draft was that Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders went undrafted.

Round one of the 2025 NFL Draft came and went while Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders waited and waited for his name to be called, to no avail. At one point, the New York Giants traded up, providing some hope that they might take Sanders, but in the end, they went with Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart instead. Dart was one of just two quarterbacks taken on night one after Miami’s Cam Ward was selected first overall by the Tennessee Titans.
Ward headlines Day 1, Sanders drops to second round
Once considered the second-best QB draft prospect in this year’s class, Sanders’ draft stock steadily slipped ahead of round one. He did not attend the draft in person on Thursday, opting instead to spend the evening with close friends and family.
“We all didn’t expect this, of course,” Sanders said to those at the watch party. “I don’t feel like this happened for no reason. All this is, of course, fuel to the fire. We all know this shouldn’t have happened. But we understand, we’re on to bigger and better things.”
This message from Shedeur Sanders after going undrafted in the 1st round is exactly why he has the resolve, poise and maturity to lead an NFL Franchise. He didn’t hide. He stood tall in the face of adversity and disappointment. This adds to his testimony.

Advice from dad
Oh, and in case you hadn’t heard - Shedeur’s father is Deion, as in Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. While having an NFL legend as a father would typically be a positive for potential teams, it’s had the opposite effect for Shedeur, considering his father’s influence.
Shedeur has only ever played under his dad as coach, first at Jackson State, then at Colorado. Deion isn’t just any coach - he’s a huge personality and has the ability to interfere if things don’t go his way for his son. Coach Prime has a powerful reach in football circles and concerns about potential interference have been amplified by the fact that he may one day follow his son to the NFL.
Still, after seeing his son get passed up on night one, he offered him some fatherly advice.
“My bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise & he chose the weak things of the world that he may put to shame the strong,” Sanders posted on X. “Please know God ain’t done & God is just really getting started. Enjoy this lesson & stop stressing.”
The draft will pick back up again tonight - Friday, April 25 - with rounds 2 and 3 starting at 7 p.m. ET.
