Update:

The NFL Owners Meetings are well underway and there have already been some big headlines coming out of Palm Beach. While these reunions usually go about shaping the structure of the league as teams, coaches and front office executives discuss rules, regulations and interests of the league, the New York Giants might have given an indication on who they are planning to take in the NFL Draft next month.

Mums the word for Daboll

While talking with the media, Giants head coach Brian Daboll was awfully tongue in cheek stating “I think as many good players as we can add we’ll take,” Daboll said about the Draft. “Right now we have the three guys in the QB room, and we’ll what happens over the next month, and whoever is in that room we’ll do the best job in coaching them up.”

The Giants let Daniel Jones go at the end of last season, and while they kept Tommy DeVito on the roster, they brought in Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson within a matter of days.

The quarterback position has presented problems for the Giants since the retirement of Eli Manning in 2019. Jones was drafted to be the future QB as Manning’s career came to an end but in the last five seasons there have been eight different quarterbacks that have started games for the Giants.

Tennessee with top pick

Now there is plenty of speculation that New York will take a quarterback with their No. 3 pick in this spring’s NFL Draft. Coach Daboll was asked about his relationship with Colorado QB, and son of Hall of Fame Deion Sanders, Shedeur Sanders, but the Giants play caller was “Relative to the guys in the draft and the draft picks, and the evaluation process of those guys, I’ll keep all that stuff in house right now.”

The general manager of the Giants revealed a little more, but didn’t confirm or deny they were going to target a QB in the draft. When asked about plans for the third overall pick on Monday, Joe Schoen said, “We’re in a position where we can take who we think is the best football player at that time. (Will take a QB) if it matches up, if the value is right.”

The Tennessee Titans have the top pick in the draft, and many have Miami’s QB Cam Ward going to Tennessee. The Cleveland Browns have the second pick and also need a quarterback so that could leave New York without a top QB available with the third pick.
