Antonio Brown wanted for attempted murder

Antonio Brown, former NFL player and Super Bowl LV champion with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, made headlines in mid-May after a shooting in Miami following a boxing event, Brandrisk Promotions 7, where he was reportedly seen with a firearm. Now, he is wanted by local authorities.

David Ovalle of The Washington Post reported that Miami-Dade County is seeking to arrest Brown on charges of attempted homicide. The arrest warrant also calls for a $10,000 bond and for Brown to remain under house arrest until his court date. In Florida, attempted homicide is classified as a first-degree felony, carrying a minimum sentence of life in prison.

Following the incident, Brown claimed he had been assaulted and acted in self-defense, leading authorities to initially release him. According to court documents, police responded to a call reporting gunfire; they found two shell casings and a gun holster with no weapon present. Brown, however, was not carrying a firearm when officers searched him.

Since walking away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers mid-game and effectively retiring from the NFL, Brown’s life has been mired in controversy. In 2023, he was accused of failing to pay child support to his ex, Wiltrice Jackson. A year earlier, he faced accusations of indecent exposure at a hotel in Dubai. He also declared bankruptcy last year and left several unpaid debts.

According to detectives, video footage posted on social media and the victim’s statements indicate that Brown allegedly struck a man, grabbed a security guard’s gun, and fired two shots at the victim. One of the bullets grazed the victim’s neck, prompting him to seek treatment at Aventura Hospital.
