Update:

The rivalry between WNBA players Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese began during their college days and became especially heated during the 2023 NCAA Championship, when Reese’s LSU Tigers defeated Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes.

The two have maintained that they have a mutual respect for each other, but Reese added fuel to the fire last year when she made a comment that she deserves some of the credit Clark is being given for the rise in interest in women’s basketball.

As the beginning of the WNBA season draws near, that feud seems to still be ongoing.

Angel Reese shuts down question about Caitlin Clark

While Caitlin Clark has been credited for the significant increase in both women’s college basketball and the WNBA, the rivalry between the two definitely has something to do with it as well. And indeed, the more competitive play in recent years in general has attributed to that.

But as Clark was receiving a lot of the attention and credit from the media, Reese commented last June that she should get some credit too.

“I’ll look back in 20 years and be like, the reason why we’re watching women’s basketball is not just because of one person,” Reese said. “It’s because of me, too. I want y’all to realize that.”

She’s not wrong, but the media took the comment and ran with it as she made sure to credit herself along with Clark and other WNBA players. As the 2025 WNBA season draws nearer, a reporter asked Reese whether her statement still holds true. Reese quickly shut it down.

“Next question,” she said.

A Chicago Sky official also chimed in to shut down the conversation, saying, “Yeah, we’ll move on. Thank you.”

The 2025 WNBA season kicks off this Friday, May 16. All eyes will be on Reese and Clark as they face off in their opening game as the Chicago Sky travel to Indianapolis to play the Indiana Fever on Saturday, May 17 at 3 p.m. ET at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
