Knicks starting five
Coach Tibs is going with his big line up to start Game 5. It's Brunson, Anonby, Bridges, KAT and Robinson. There is no room for error in this game and this team has to get out to a quick start tonight. It'll be up to then to get the crowd going from early on, and hang on the rest of the way.
Pacers first five
The Pacers have a chance to close out the series tonight, and they are going with their strongest five to start the game. It's Haliburton, Nembhard, Nesmti, Siakam and Turner to tip off this Game 5 from NYC.
Injury report: Pacers
The Pacers have been fortunate enough to stay healthy throughout this entire postseason. Last game there was a question to wether or not Aaron Nesmith would play, but he was in the starting five, and had 16 points on 5/9 shooting. He is back in the starting five and the Pacers are healthy from top to bottom. They can close it out tonight, but it’s going to take everyone.
Injury report: Knicks
The Knicks are down 3-1 coming back to the Garden but there is a little good news. They have a clean bill of health and they are going to need it. Some one has to step up that’s not named KAT or Brunson. KAT took a blow to the knee and is questionable, but he will play in this must win game. They have the entire ensemble ready for tonight’s must win game. The question is, who will take over and ease the burden on the two Knicks stars?
Siakam's playoff savy
It’s not just Tyrese Haliburton who the Knicks are having trouble containing. Pascal Siakam, who is the only one on the Pacers who knows what it’s like to win a title, has been sensational. He had 17 in the series opening win but since he has had a 39 point game and a 30 point game. It’s not just what he does on the stat sheet that counts, he is a veteran presence who is guiding this team through the playoffs, and possibly into the Finals. He looked unstoppable in Game 4 as the Knicks struggled to contain the versatile big man who can pull big guys to the perimeter and take smaller guys to the cup. He’s averaging 54% from the field and is 6/12 from downtown in this series.
Indy depth the difference
There are times where it just doesn’t look like the Knicks have enough to win this series. Coach Thibs has a fantastic starting five, and uses three maybe four guys off the bench. That thin rotation makes it awfully hard to keep up with the Pacers who love to get out and run the floor. The Knicks starters play a lot of minutes and they have to be someone warn out by this stage of the series. Last game NY was forced to reach deep down their bench because of foul trouble, but the role players couldn’t produce enough to carry the Knicks to the win. The Pacers on the other hand have plenty of options off the bench, and their second unit can play even faster than their first unit which makes life awfully difficult for New York.
The history of the 3-1 leads
We all know the stats by now, and if you don’t let me break it down for you: the Knicks are in trouble down 3-1. They will be focused on just winning tonight before planning what would be a historic comeback, but they have a very steep uphill climb after losing both of their home games to start the series and Game 4 in Indy on Tuesday. There have been almost 300 series in which teams have held a 3-1 lead. Over 95% of teams go on to close out the series, while just 13 teams have completed the comeback. The last team to do so was the Denver Nuggets who did it not once but twice during the bubble.
Brunson burning
If the Knicks lose this series and fail to reach the NBA Finals, it’s not going to be because of Jalen Brunson. He is averaging 33.3 points and 5.5 assists in this series, but strangely enough the only game in which he failed to score 30 was the game that the Knicks won. He got in foul trouble and missed a large portion of the second half and that’s when the rest of the team stepped up and filled in the holes during the only win of the series. That might be a key to victory tonight for the Knicks. Brunson has to be great, but everyone else has to step up and meet his level if New York are going to force a Game 6.
Haliburton heating up
Tyrese Haliburton has gone from getting voted the most overrated in the league maybe being the MVP of the postseason. I know that’s not a real award, but if it was, he would have to be in the running with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. It’s not just the numbers, or the triple doubles in big games. It’s his flare for the spectacular and the ability bring his team from the depths and complete dramatic comebacks late in the 4th quarter. If the Pacers are going to pull off the win tonight and close the series, Haliburton is going to be at the center of everything for the Pacers.
Recap of Game 4 in Indy
The Pacers knew they had a golden opportunity to take control of this series at home against the Knicks on Monday night, and they took it. They came out red hot from the field shooting almost 70% from in the first quarter and scored 43 points in the opening 12 minutes. The Knicks were right there all night long, but they could never take control of the game, in large part because they couldn’t stop the Pacers from scoring. Jalen Brunson had 31 and Karl-Anthony Towns had 24 and 12 rebounds but Tyrese Haliburton dropped a game high 32 points while posting a triple double and Pascal Siakam had another 30. The Pacers took their largest lead coming right out of the halftime break as they went on a 13-0 run that carried over from the first half. The Pacers would hold off the Knicks for the rest of the way and Indy took a 3-1 series lead and tonight they have a chance close out the Knicks in New York.
We are live from MSG
Hello everyone and welcome to Madison Square Garden where the Knicks are back home with their backs against the ropes. They went to Indiana and needed a 20 point second half comeback in Game 3 just to stay alive, but then lost Game 4 to give the Pacers all the momentum coming into this game tonight. Indiana have been led by the player that the rest of the league voted the most overrated in the NBA, and now Tyrese Haliburton has Indiana knocking on the door of the NBA Finals. It’s win or go home time for the Knicks who have to take this comeback bid one game at a time. The Pacers will be hoping that the Knicks will only have one more game this season.
