Knicks 91 vs 90 Celtics summary, stats, scores and highlights | NBA Playoffs Game 2

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - MAY 07: OG Anunoby #8 of the New York Knicks reacts during the third quarter against the Boston Celtics in Game Two of the Eastern Conference Second Round NBA Playoffs at TD Garden on May 07, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts. Of course with the game on the line it was going to be Brunson at the line to give his team the lead with 12.7 to go. He walked up nailed both and let the defense do the word the rest of the way.

The Celtics scored just six points and just one field goal in the final 8:40 of Game 2. For the second straight game they couldn't even get a shot off at the final buzzer and for the second straight game they blew a 20 point lead late in the third quarter.

New York head to MSG up 2-0 with a chance to take a huge step towards the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

as.com

With under a minute left, Brunson took it to the cup and gave the Knicks a three point lead which would be the largest of their night. He ended the with 17 points and shot just 6/17 but most of those six field goals came when it mattered most.

as.com

It was 84-68 with 8:40 to go in the 4th quarter, but the Celtics went ice cold and the Knicks got hot. Brunson, the most clutch player in the league, did what he always did and hit big shot after big shot down the stretch. The Knicks never led until this jumper with 2:00 to go.

as.com

The comeback would have never happened if Bridges didn't hit 7 straight points early in the quarter to give the Knicks a little spark. He went into the 4th scoreless and ended the night with 14 points.

as.com

Hart led all scores with 23 points, and had another 6 rebounds and 3 assists. On a night that KAT and Brunson didn't have their best stuff all night he stepped to the plate and carried his team for stretches of the game.

as.com

It wasn't immediate from the Knicks. They trailed by 16 after this three from Pritchard but the Celtics would hit just one more field goal the rest of the game.

as.com

In Game 1 New York trailed 75-55. In Game 2 they trailed 73-53 with 3:12 in the 3rd quarter. They ended the night on a 38-17 run.

as.com

KAT was massive on Wednesday night. He went for 21 points and 17 rebounds and is proving to be a match up nightmare for the Celtics who had Porzingis available but didn't get much from him.

as.com

This dunk from Anunoby didn't count but boy was it spectacular. White put his body on the line drew the charge and then dropped a bucket on the other end. It all seemed like it was going Boston's way, but history would repeat itself.

as.com

Jalen Brunson went to halftime break just 3/10 from the field, but like in Game 1, he was saving his best for last.

as.com

The Boston lead stretched out to 16 in the 2nd quarter, but the Knicks would chip into the lead a little before the break as they got out on the break and were able to get points in transition. They didn't play well for the first 3 quarters, but they never let the Celtics run away with the game.

as.com

Derrick White and the Celtics didn't shoot it better from three point range in Game 2, shooting 25% from downtown, but they did shoot it less. They put up 60 on Monday and just 40 on Wednesday night.

as.com

KAT had 8 straight points as the rest of his team were still waking up. He got in foul trouble in Game 1, but made sure he was on the court as much as possible in Game 2. They needed him and he delivered on both ends.

as.com

Jaylen Brown looked like he was going to be the one to take the team on his back after no one seemed like they wanted to in the series opener. Brown came out swinging and had 17 points in the first half as Boston built up a double digit lead early on.

as.com

The New York Knicks took a miraculous two game lead on the defending champion Boston Celtics on Wednesday night after a second straight comeback late in the final half. Josh Hart led all scorers with 23 points in the Knicks 91-90 Game 2 win.

The Knicks were ice cold coming out of the gate. They had just 2 points after five and a half minutes, but like in Game 1, Karl-Anthony Towns got things going on the offensive end.

The Knicks stated to get out in transition a little bit at the end of the half and that's their specialty. They play their best when they play fast. Boston have been in control but the Knicks are going to give them all they have in the 2nd half.

Derrick White is Mr. Consistent for this team. You know what you're going to get from White each and every night. He rarely has a bad game and produces on each end of the floor night in and night out.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM BOSTON!!!

as.com

JT and JB

Boston are going to need these two to step up. Both had their moments where they took control on Monday but one of them is going to have to dominate from start to finish as they learned in Game 1.

as.com

Knicks home away from home

The first two games are being played in Boston, but from the looks of videos of Monday' game you would thing the Knicks have homecourt advantage. Knicks fans packed Madison Square Garden to the brim, and tonight will be no different.

Injury report: Celtics

The Celtics came into this series with a clean bill of health, but after Game 1, that list is looking a little more troublesome. Prozingis went off the court in the 2nd quarter and had to miss the rest of the game after just 13 minutes played. He is still feeling the effects of the illness but has been listed as probable tonight. The same can’t be said fo Sam Hauser who sprained his right ankle in Game 1 and he has been listed as doubtful for tonight’s game.

as.com

Injury report: Knicks

The Knicks got through a physical first round against the Detroit Pistons with no injuries and they did the same after Game 1 against the Celtics. The Knicks go deep down their bench when in need, so for coach Thibs to have a full roster is going to give him a great deal of confidence that the Knicks can go into TD Garden and get another win to take home to Madison Square Garden.

Road record: NBA Playoffs witness league first in Conference Semi-Finals

Away teams having field day

I don’t know what’s going on around the league in this second round, but coming into tonight, the road team has won every game so far. It started with the Pacers beating the Cavs in Cleveland. After that the Knicks beat the Celtics, and then the Nuggets stunned the Thunder in OKC. Last night the Pacers beat the Cavs on the road again and the Warriors were able to top the Timberwolves even without Steph Curry. Home court advantage? Maybe not. Our William Allen has more.

as.com

The Celtic way

The Boston Celtics have been the team that shoots the most threes in the league for the last two years. It’s their identity. Living and dying by the three has never been more real for an NBA team, and last year that recipe led to the Celtics 18th NBA title. In Game 1, it was what killed the Celtics. They shot 60 three pointers, more than 60% of their field goals, and made just 15. They went cold in the second half but continued to jack up threes hoping that the averages would play out as they looked to get back in the game. You can bet the C’s are going keep shooting tonight in Game 2 against the Knicks.

as.com

Boston: Home vs. Away

Losing Game 1 at home isn’t ideal. Obviously you want to take care of business in the first game of the series and set the tone for the rest of the way, especially in front of your home fans. The Celtics lost Game 1, and while it’s disappointing, the series is far from over. The Celtics know they are more than capable of coming back, and winning games on the road. In fact they have a better road record than they do a home record. The C’s went 28-13 in TD Garden during the regular season and 33-8 away from home. They will worry about tonight’s game first but know they can get one if not two in New York when the time comes.

Porzingis mystery illness

Kristaps Porzingis was brought in for one specific purpose at the start of last season. He was brought in as the missing piece of the title puzzle and he proved to be an invaluable piece. He is a mismatch nightmare. A 7 footer who can shoot the three, put the ball on the deck and bang under the boards. Unfortunately, the Celtics were without their big Latvian for the majority of Game 1. He started the game off in the first five, but lasted just 13 minutes before he came off the floor while battling some sort of sickness and missed the rest of the game. Porzingis missed a handful of games throughout the season due to an unknown illness, but Boston will be hoping that he makes a quick recovery and is ready for another title run.

Star watch: Celtics

It was like everyone kind of took turns taking control of the game for the Celtics in game one. At least that was the case for the first half. Tatum had 13 first quarter points and Boston led by a point after 12 minutes. Then Payton Pritchard got hot off the bench and had 13 points. Jalen Brown led the run heading into halftime, but then no one stepped up and took over the game in the 2nd half. Tatum ended the night with 23, and so did Brown. White had 19 and looked like the only one willing to put the team on his shoulders, but the C’s went cold from the field as the Knicks didn’t just creep back into the game, they won it.

as.com

Star watch: Knicks

It wasn’t the dream start for Jalen Brunson in Game 1 from the TD Garden. The Knick superstar was just 3/9 to start the game, and it really wasn’t he started to see the ball go down that the Knicks looked like they might have been capable of a comeback. He went 6/14 in the final half from Boston and ended the night with 29 points, but it was the timing of his points that made the difference. There’s a reason he was named the most clutch player in the NBA this season, and on Monday night it showed.

Game 1 recap

Game 1 started kind of as we expected although the C’s were the much fresh and more well rested team heading into the series opener. Both teams went back and forth and it was Karl-Anthony Towns and Jayson Tatum that were carrying their teams for the first quarter. Tatum scored 13 in a row for Boston and KAT started to heat up until he picked up his third foul early in the 2nd quarter and had to sit. That allowed Boston to build up a 16 point lead after heading into halftime on a 13-3 run. The advantage ballooned up to 20 midway through the 3rd quarter but the Knicks came clawing back and even took the lead in regulation. OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson had 29 points a piece and led the come back charge and settled the game in OT as Mikal Bridges swiped the ball out of Jalen Brown’s hands before he could get up a game winning shot.
