Update:

The race for the Larry O’Brien Trophy is becoming clearer as the 2024-25 NBA Playoffs progress. Several first-round matchups have wrapped up, with powerhouse teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks eliminated from contention.

The Lakers fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games, marking a disappointing end to their season despite strong performances from LeBron James and Luka Doncic. Meanwhile, the Bucks were knocked out by the Indiana Pacers, who secured a 4-1 series victory.

The Knicks book their ticket

The Eastern Conference semifinals in the NBA Playoffs are officially set. The New York Knicks punched their ticket to the next round after a hard-fought 116-113 victory over the Detroit Pistons in Game 6 of their first-round series.

With this win, the Knicks will now face the Boston Celtics, who secured their spot by defeating the Orlando Magic in five games. The highly anticipated series will tip off on Monday, May 5, at TD Garden in Boston.

Jalen Brunson was the hero for the Knicks, delivering a sensational 40-point display, including a clutch game-winning three-pointer with just 4.3 seconds left on the clock. His stellar play ensured the Knicks avoided a decisive Game 7 and advanced to the semifinals.

The Western Conference Playoff picture remains uncertain as the Los Angeles Clippers pulled off a 111-105 victory over the Denver Nuggets in Game 6, forcing a decisive Game 7. James Harden led the charge with 28 points and eight assists, while Kawhi Leonard added 27 points and 10 rebounds to keep the Clippers’ season alive. The series will now head to Denver for a winner-takes-all showdown on Saturday, May 3.

Rockets-Golden State goes to Game 6

Meanwhile, the battle between the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors is still ongoing. The Rockets dominated Game 5, securing a 131-116 win to stay alive in the series. Fred VanVleet and Amen Thompson led the charge, combining for 51 points, while Dillon Brooks added 24. The Warriors, however, still hold a 3-2 series lead, with Game 6 set for Friday, May 2, at Chase Center in San Francisco.

Awaiting the results of these matchups, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves are patiently waiting to discover their semifinal opponents.
