Sylvester Stallone almost died during the filming of Rocky IV: “I was going to be talking to angels”

The actor was rushed to intensive care after receiving a powerful punch.

Rocky, Sylverster Stallone

Since the 1980s, Sylvester Stallone has become an action movie legend. Along with Arnold Schwarzenegger and other actors of his time, he has left his mark on generations of moviegoers. However, performing action scenes has caused him some displeasure. As he revealed in a Netflix documentary, filming Rocky IV was so eventful that he came close to dying.

Dolph Lundgren, another star of the movie, punched him so hard that he was completely knocked out: “He pulverized me,” the veteran actor admitted. It happened while they were filming one of the fight sequences between their respective characters, Ivan Drago and Rocky Balboa.

From the movie set to intensive care

Stallone was evacuated by ambulance from the studio in Vancouver, British Columbia, to a hospital in Santa Monica, California. “And I didn’t feel it in the moment but later that night my heart started to swell. My blood pressure went up to 260 and I was going to be talking to angels,” he said. “Next thing I know I’m on this emergency, low-altitude flight. I’m in intensive care surrounded by nuns and then after that, I had to go back and finish the fight.”

Sylvester Stallone has had to undergo several surgeries. In ‘The Expendables’, he underwent seven major surgeries: “I never recovered from [‘Expendables’]. After that film, it was never physically the same. So I warn people, ‘Don’t do your own stunts.’”
