Zuckerberg and Meta vs. Apple: the new big battle with Facebook and Instagram blocking features for iOS devices
It’s come to light that Meta has removed the option to use Apple Intelligence writing tools across its apps including Facebook, Instagram, among others.

It recently came to light that Meta is blocking the use of Apple Intelligence writing tools across its various apps including Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp. The artificial intelligence features from the tech giant based in Cupertino were originally supported on Meta platforms but Mark Zuckerburg’s company appears to have begun removing support in December according to various reports based on comments in Apple support forums.
Users can still access Apple Intelligence writing tools when accessing the Meta apps in a browser, but AppleInsider points out that it may be a sign of how little uptake these AI features have had that Meta’s blocking them was only just recently noticed last week by the Sorcererhat Tech blog.
Why are Apple Intelligence Writing Tools blocked on Meta apps?
The reason behind Meta blocking Apple Intelligence writing tools across its apps is currently not forthcoming and “it’s unlikely that Meta will ever reveal the reasons behind its decision,” notes AppleInsider. While the two companies are not direct competitors, big tech companies have been vying to expand into the realm of AI prompting speculation that Meta may be trying to stifle Apple’s growth into the sector.
Meta has its own AI services, but they currently do not offer similar features. Apple rejected overtures by Meta to integrate the social networking company’s AI Llama chatbot into the iPhone last year according to Bloomberg News. The apparent reason was that Apple does not consider Meta’s privacy policies stringent enough to protect iPhone users’ data.
Apple has already made a deal with Open AI to provide its ChatGPT AI assistant on iPhones and it is rumored that the tech giant is in talks with Google to integrate that tech company’s chatbot, Gemini on iOS devices.
