Estados Unidos Update:

In recent months, President Trump has made statements and posted on social media that call into question his mental state. At 78 years old, his erratic responses and difficulty recalling facts have raised alarm bells, according to USA Today columnist Rex Huppke, who claims that his online posts and interview responses suggest significant “cognitive decline.”

This was the case during an exclusive with TIME magazine, in which the White House leader showed difficulty following simple questions. For example, when the Republican spoke about the border wall, he contradicted himself, claiming that he had finished it, although he later noted that more than 100 miles were still left to be built.

Another key moment in the interview occurred when reporters reminded him that they had interviewed Biden the previous year, to which Trump reacted with surprise. He later claimed that he had read the interview and that it “didn’t go well,” further illustrating his “growing disconnect” with reality, according to Huppke.

Other controversial statements

Trump’s contradictions during the interview with TIME magazine were not the only moments that called into question the president’s mental state.

Huppke points to a briefing with reporters during a flight on Air Force One. Trump was asked about an attack in Moscow that killed a Russian general. The president responded, “Who killed what?” He then asked, puzzled, “Where did it happen?” even though the reporter had mentioned it seconds earlier.

Another moment that calls into question his cognitive abilities occurred during an interview in the Oval Office, where the president accused the Maryland man who was deported ‘accidentally’ to El Salvador, of being a member of MS-13.

The president has claimed that Abrego had MS-13 gang tattoos and showed an allegedly altered photograph as proof. When questioned about the manipulated image, Trump refused to accept it.

For Rex Huppke, these are just a few examples of why President Trump is not well. “This man’s brain is full of spiders,” Huppke notes. “If we’re honest, this aging president barely makes sense.”
