Pizza giant and top competitor to Pizza Hut and Papa Johns plans 200 store closures
Domino’s Pizza has announced the complete closure of 200 stores across several countries with the goal of saving over $14 million.

A strategic yet surprising decision has taken place in the American business world. Domino’s Pizza, a fast-food chain specializing in pizza and a strong competitor to Pizza Hut and Little Caesars in the United States, has decided to close 200 of its stores spread across various international markets. However, rather than a move forced by declining sales, this is a strategy aimed at modernizing the company and improving service efficiency.
Operating in dozens of countries worldwide, the company is seeking ways to improve sustainability and reduce operating costs, aiming to save approximately 15 million dollars over two years.
Japan, the most affected country in Domino’s restructuring
The hardest hit by the company’s plan is Japan, where they intend to close 172 stores. Of those, 114 are company-owned, while the remaining 58 are franchise locations. Additionally, several stores will be closed in other countries, but the exact locations have not yet been disclosed.
The visionary leading this corporate reform is Mark van Dyck, CEO, who assumed his role just three months ago. “These times demand adaptation and determination. We cannot stand still when the market is changing radically,” Van Dyck said in a statement. This strategy focuses on optimizing the most profitable stores and closing those that are unfeasible to maintain.
The new economic outlook
According to Domino’s forecasts, net pre-tax income of 84 million dollars is expected for the second half of 2025. Company leadership believes this new strategy will help build a stronger foundation, maintaining the company’s competitiveness in the sector. Despite the upheaval, the message Domino’s is sending with this new policy is that it’s a strategic reboot aimed at creating a flexible, adaptable, and healthy business for the future.
