Pharmaceutical giant CVS closes 271 stores in the U.S.: these are the known affected stores
CVS announced that it will be “strategically” closing 271 locations in order to “better meet consumers’ health, wellness and pharmacy care needs.”

CVS plans to close more stores in 2025 as part of its ongoing restructuring efforts to “streamline and simplify” operations company-wide. The drug store chain told Newsweek that it is shuttering 271 locations not because of industry pressures but to “enable the company to better meet customers’ needs.”
“Store closure decisions are based on several factors, including population shifts, consumer buying patterns, store and pharmacy density, pharmacy care access, and community health needs,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. “We’re focused on ensuring we have the right kinds of stores and the right number of stores in the right locations.”
Where CVS will be closing stores
The drug store chain did not provide Newsweek with a list of stores that will be closing but The Krazy Coupon Lady, a media company that helps shoppers “unapologetically maximize their money,” published a list of 34 locations CVS has either already closed or that are scheduled to shut their doors in 2025 according to local media reports.

The CVS announced in 2021 that it was going to begin a process of changing its store formats to “drive higher engagement with consumers.” That restructuring effort dubbed “omnichannel health strategy” saw the development of three different store models to serve as community health destinations.
Over three years, between 2022 and 2024, it closed 900 stores and opened 100.
Despite the comany’s realignment process the CVS spokesperson said that “85% of people in the U.S. will still live within 10 miles of a CVS Pharmacy.”
