Apple to surprise with iPhone on its 20th anniversary with “extraordinarily complex” design to be manufactured in China

Nearly two decades ago, Apple completely changed the concept of the mobile phone. Will that be the case again when it releases the 20th anniversary iPhone?

Update:

Apple fans got the first tantalizing crumb of news about what the Cupertino-based tech company is cooking up for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary. It’s still two years away, but according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on two new iPhone models to celebrate.

Furthermore, he reports that they are so “extraordinarily complex” that there is only one place that they can be built, in the People’s Republic of China. That’s despite Apple having announced that it will move most of its production to India in light of Trump’s trade war with Beijing due to the lower tariffs being imposed on Dehli.

What do we know about the 20th anniversary iPhone?

Apple revolutionized the mobile phone concept when it launched the iPhone in 2007. The black mirror face became the industry standard and smartphones, along with the apps that run on them, became omnipresent in our lives.

So besides being “extraordinarily complex,” what else do we know about the 20th anniversary iPhone? Not much.

However, the two new models will “require new parts and production techniques” necessitating they be built in China, where Apple has always manufactured the first runs of a brand-new product or design.

As always, Apple is highly secretive of new model that they are creating. But there is speculation about what we might be able to expect.

Foldable iPhone? All screen? No ports?

Apple has been working on a foldable iPhone for some time now that would open like a book to give users a bigger screen, similar to an iPad mini, when open but the manageable pocket-size of an iPhone when closed.

That may be just around the corner though, arriving before the iPhone’s 20th anniversary. Gurman in early April said that Apple was planning a “bold new Pro model” that would “make more extensive use of glass.”

9to5 Mac says that if all goes sportingly, that such a device “would finally achieve what Jony Ive visioned for the iPhone,” that it “appear like a single sheet of glass.”

There are also rumors that Apple is looking to do away with ports. This could aid in the tech company’s push to have all iPhones eventually becoming ultra-thin.
